0Dansko Mules: The Modern, Chic Lexie Reviewed by Kirsten
So simple, so classic, so comfortable. The Dansko Lexie mule is the shoe I didn’t know I needed until I bought it on a whim. I’m currently employed as a part-time high school Spanish teacher in the Indy area, but my feet and knees don’t understand part-time–they’re full-time complaining lately. My knees have never been an issue, even with RA, but a recent meniscus tear means even a slight heel causes intense pain. While I wait for the doctor to get back with me for treatment options, I’m sticking to these mules for work (along with my Birkenstock Buckleys).
The soft leather uppers conform to bunions and hammertoes and while the toe box is narrower than traditional Dansko clogs, it doesn’t squeeze my forefoot (I’m a true medium width with wider forefoot). The arch support is surprisingly noticeable for a low profile mule. The footbed is removable but I don’t think it would accommodate an orthotic well.
The insole is nicely cushioned and the outsole fairly flat (1/2″ heel) and flexible. Lately I’ve found that more flexible footwear takes load off the knee therefore relieving pain (my Topo Athletic shoes have been a lifesaver as they’ve allowed me to continue to walk for exercise).
I love the Moroccan green color–it’s subtle yet adds interest to many outfits.
I ordered the Dansko Lexie in my usual euro size 41 which best fits my size 10 medium foot. I don’t find the Lexie to slip off my foot, mainly due to my high instep. But if you have a narrow foot or low instep, you may have this problem.
Find the Dansko Lexie in euro sizes 36-41 for $82-129.95 from Zappos, Dansko.com, and Amazon.Do you have a favorite Dansko style? Leave us a comment or join our Facebook community where we talk all things comfortables shoes!
