The Amex Offers program sometimes offers savings or bonus points on flight purchases, which can represent a great deal. We’ve just seen a new offer introduced, offering a discount on an Alaska Airlines flight, with a twist.

Save $100 on an Alaska Airlines purchase

A new targeted Amex Offers deal has just been rolled out, which offers a $100 statement credit when you spend $500+ on an Alaska Airlines purchase. This is valid for purchases through May 26, 2024. However, the catch is that rather than offering this deal if you book directly with Alaska Airlines, you have to book your flight through AmexTravel.com in order to qualify.

Spend $500+ with Alaska, receive a $100 statement credit

That’s the equivalent of up to 20% back on Alaska spending (if spending exactly $500), which is awesome. There are some basic conditions to this offer that are worth being aware of:

  • You need to spend at least $500 in one or more transactions
  • Your flight must originate in the United States and be charged in USD
  • You must book by May 26, 2024, though there’s no need to actually travel by then
  • This offer excludes flights purchased as a Flight + Hotel package through American Express Travel, and any flights booked directly with Alaska Airlines or through other third party sites

Ideally you’ll see this offer on the Amex Platinum

This offer is targeted, though it’s possible you’ll see it on multiple of your Amex cards. If so, I’d highly recommend registering The Platinum Card® from American Express (review) for this offer. That’s because the Amex Platinum offers 5x points on airfare purchased directly with airlines and through AmexTravel.com (on up to $500,000 of flight purchases per calendar year, and then 1x).

I value Membership Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, so to me those points alone are worth an incremental 8.5% return. On top of that, the Amex Platinum offers excellent travel protection should you experience irregular operations.

In other words, if you took advantage of this offer with the Amex Platinum for a $500 ticket, you’d earn a total of 2,500 Membership Rewards points plus a $100 statement credit. That’s awesome.

This Amex Offers deal can be a good value

Bottom line

There’s a new targeted Amex Offers deal that can save you $100 when purchasing an Alaska Airlines ticket through AmexTravel.com. This is an excellent deal, and when you factor in the statement credit and value of points, this can potentially get you quite a bit of value when spending $500+ with Alaska.

If you have any upcoming travel to plan, be sure to check your Amex account to see if you’re eligible for this offer.

Were you targeted for this offer, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?

Added offer only to see the Amex portal flight $70 more per person than booking direct for a flight we need to take in the spring with the same routing, same class of service… no thanks.

No thanks. AMEX Travel is a disaster. If you need to make a change to your reservation (voluntary or involuntary) or cancel, you will regret this.

Agree. I book direct except in situations where it's impossible.

Last time I used AMEX Travel (thankfully with no problem) was on Boliviana because their website required a Bolivian tax ID!
