The Hyatt Privé program offers incredible perks at select Hyatt properties, including complimentary breakfast, room upgrades, hotel credits, and more. While the program was first introduced in 2018, in this post I wanted to provide an update on the program, given all of the new hotels that Hyatt has added in the past few years.
Hotels still largely rely on travel advisors to sell rooms, especially at luxury hotels. As a result, many hotel brands have developed special partnerships with select travel agencies, so that they can offer their guests more perks when staying at their hotels.
In the past we’ve written about Accor STEP, Four Seasons Preferred Partner, Rosewood Elite, Shangri-La Luxury Circle, Hilton Impresario, Mandarin Oriental Fan Club, Marriott STARS & Luminous, and more. Beyond that, there are organizations like Virtuoso, which offer similar benefits, but have member hotels that span many hotel groups, and also include independent hotels.
Hyatt offers a similar program for many of their hotels, which has the potential to add huge value for frequent Hyatt guests. Hyatt Privé offers special privileges at over 200 Hyatt hotels around the world, over 100 of which don’t belong to Virtuoso. In many cases there are even free night offers, including at properties like the Andaz Maui (which even has brand new villas).
In this post:
What Brands Participate In Hyatt Privé?
Hyatt Privé rates can be booked at the following brands:
- Park Hyatt (all properties)
- Andaz (all properties)
- Miraval (all properties)
- Grand Hyatt (select properties)
- Hyatt Centric (select properties)
- Hyatt Regency (select properties)
- The Unbound Collection (select properties)
- Thompson (select properties)
- Alila (select properties)
- Joie de Vivre (select properties)
You can find a full list of participating Hyatt Privé properties here.
Since it’s a common point of confusion, note that the rates can’t be booked at Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties — these aren’t managed by Hyatt, but rather Hyatt just has a marketing partnership with them.
What Are The Benefits Of Booking Through Hyatt Privé?
Hyatt Privé benefits vary by brand.
For stays at Park Hyatt hotels you receive:
- A $100 property credit per room per stay
- A one category room upgrade confirmed within 24 hours of booking (room-to-room or suite-to-suite) — based on availability at the time of booking
- Daily full breakfast for two in the hotel’s restaurant
- Early check-in (as early as 9AM) and late check-out (as late as 4PM), subject to availability
- A welcome gift and letter
For stays at select Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Regency, Alila, Joie de Vivre, Thompson, and The Unbound Collection hotels, you receive:
- A $50 or $100 property credit per room per stay (it varies by a hotel)
- A one category room upgrade confirmed within 24 hours of booking (room-to-room or suite-to-suite) — based on availability at the time of booking
- Daily full breakfast for two in the hotel’s restaurant
- Early check-in (as early as 9AM), subject to availability
- A welcome gift and letter
What Is The Minimum Stay Required For A Hyatt Privé Reservation?
For Park Hyatt and Andaz properties, there’s no minimum stay requirement to book a Hyatt Privé rate. For Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Alila, Joie de Vivre, Thomson, and The Unbound Collection, you need to stay a minimum of two nights to book a Hyatt Privé rate.
How Much Is The Hyatt Privé Rate?
The Hyatt Privé rate should be identical to the flexible/standard rate. You can’t book a Hyatt Privé rate in conjunction with a member discount rate, a AAA rate, a corporate rate, a pre-paid rate, a third party rate, or an award stay, just to give a few examples.
Do You Earn World of Hyatt Points For Hyatt Privé Rates?
Absolutely! You earn World of Hyatt points and receive all elite benefits when booking a Hyatt Privé rate, and can also take advantage of Hyatt’s promotions. This works no differently than any other paid Hyatt stay for those purposes.
You can still apply a Globalist suite upgrade or Explorist club upgrade to a Privé reservation, and take advantage of all other perks you’d receive for stays.
The only thing you generally can’t do is use points to upgrade a Privé booking.
I’m A Globalist Member, Don’t I Already Get All These Perks?
There are several potential advantages to a Globalist member booking a Hyatt Privé rate:
- You receive a confirmed upgrade within 24 hours of when you book based on availability, while Globalist upgrades are based on availability at the time of check-in (and as a Globalist member I sometimes don’t receive any sort of upgrade)
- You receive a $50-100 hotel credit per stay
- You receive complimentary restaurant breakfast, while when a hotel has a club lounge you typically only get complimentary breakfast in the lounge
- You receive a welcome gift
Isn’t This A Good Alternative To Going For Status?
In my opinion, yes. As hotels increasingly introduce these types of programs, the value of elite status sort of decreases. Just for booking through certain travel agents you get a complimentary upgrade, free breakfast, early and late check-out (subject to availability), and a hotel credit. Those are some of the most valuable elite perks, and then some.
For a leisure traveler it makes you wonder whether it’s really worth being loyal to a particular chain, rather than just staying at the hotel that’s the best value in a given market.
How Do I Book A Hyatt Privé Rate?
Consumers can’t book Hyatt Privé rates directly, but rather you have to book through an eligible travel agent. I know Ford is happy to help with these reservations, and he can be reached at [email protected]. Other travel agents are welcome to leave their information below, so that people can get in touch with them.
To make your own life easier, in general I’d recommend doing the following before contacting a travel agent:
- Look up the flexible rate for the hotel you want to book, just to be sure that Hyatt Privé is the best option for you (again, other rates don’t qualify)
- Make sure you’re meeting the night eligibility — for Park Hyatt and Andaz, a one night stay is eligible, while for the participating Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Alila, Joie de Vivre, Thompson, and The Unbound Collection properties, a two night stay is required
Is There A Fee To Book Hyatt Privé Rates?
Different travel advisors will have different policies, but Ford doesn’t charge service fees with Hyatt Privé bookings. Many other travel advisors don’t either, though some do.
Can I Apply Hyatt Privé Benefits To An Existing Booking?
If you’ve already booked a stay with Hyatt and it’s refundable or booked at the standard rate, it might be possible to apply Hyatt Privé benefits to your booking. You’ll want to contact a travel advisor to see what might be possible.
Is There A List Of Hyatt Privé Hotels?
The hotels participating in Privé aren’t published by Hyatt, but here’s a list of all properties participating in Hyatt Privé as of February 2021.
This can change, but a travel agent can advise you exactly which properties are participating (in case there’s confusion), and whether the property credit is for $50 or $100.
Pay For Hyatt Privé Stays With Any Credit Card
Unlike Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts rates, with Hyatt Privé you can use any credit card to secure and pay for your hotel stay. I’d of course recommend using a card that earns extra points on hotel spending. My first pick would be the World of Hyatt Credit Card, which offers 4x World of Hyatt points for spending at Hyatt properties.
Where I See Value In Hyatt Privé
World of Hyatt Globalist is my favorite hotel status, and I’ve found the Hyatt Privé program to be a great complement.
I don’t book everything as a Privé rate, though:
- For Park Hyatt and other expensive hotels I’ll often redeem World of Hyatt points, especially given that Hyatt honors all elite benefits on award stays, and even lets Globalist members use their suite upgrades; you can’t get Privé benefits on points stays
- Sometimes the pre-paid or promotional rate is so much cheaper that it’s not worth paying the “standard” rate; that’s not always the case, though it does happen sometimes
Otherwise I get value through the Privé program for a good number of Hyatt stays.
For Park Hyatts and other luxury properties, I find that booking through Privé is better than booking through Virtuoso. The perks are largely similar, though the difference is that when booking through Privé you get a confirmed upgrade at the time of booking (subject to availability within 24 hours). I’ll often be upgraded even further, but it’s nice to have that confirmed upgrade at booking.
Where I see the absolute most value is with mid-range properties where you’d otherwise never have access to one of these kinds of programs. Usually these proprietary programs are reserved for “true” luxury properties, but getting these at Andaz, Hyatt Regency, Thompson, and several other brands, is awesome.
Bottom Line
I was excited when the Hyatt Privé program launched at the beginning of 2018, and I remain equally enthusiastic about it now. In my opinion Hyatt has done an excellent job with the execution of this program.
Hyatt Privé has added a ton of value to my hotel stays, and in many cases has caused me to choose a Hyatt over another hotel. While these perks are nice at Park Hyatts, I’m equally thrilled to see them at many of Hyatt’s other brands, ranging from Andaz to Alila.
For many people this program sounds too good to be true, but it’s not. Just book the standard rate through an eligible travel advisor and you’ll get an upgrade, a $50-100 credit, free breakfast, and more.

A note on the $50-$100 credit benefit: while it is correct that almost all participating properties offer this as a benefit; there are some that do not. For example, the Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur does not offer any such credit--nor do they offer another other suitable benefit as a substitute--probably because average nightly rates are relatively low. Just a heads up!
Great article Ben, very clear! The 'x nights free' promos really make this program sweet for all status levels. I'm a Hyatt Prive agent (as well as Virtuoso and all other major programs), so if anyone would like to see any rates and inclusions we can provide, feel free to contact me on [email protected], or via www.rwrdtravel.com - Cheers!
It's not accurate that the upgrade is based on "availability at the time of booking". Would be too good to be true. It's based on "forecasted availability" and hotels which are wide open at the time of booking routinely decline an upgrade because they're expecting to be full. Ford can confirm.
This concept is amazing! I had no idea!
I am a total newbie. Hoping to take my wife on a surprise 10-year anniversary for a one-night stay at Ventana Big Sur (glamping). With tax and everything it's $499. Would be awesome to save $100 off that and get that free breakfast. Ventana offers 20% off on their website but only if you book 45 days in advance. I just got an American Express Platinum that I will probably use for this booking anyway...

Should I pursue Prive or try the AmEx concierge or go another route? Anyone willing to toss some advice my way I will be very grateful too. Thank you!
Can Hyatt Prive be combined with a globalist suite upgrade certificate? That is, if I apply a globalist suite upgrade to a base-level room booked under Hyatt Prive, will I be qualified to be upgraded to a non-standard premium suite?
I'm also a Hyatt Prive agent and would be happy to help book your stay.
Shoot me an email to [email protected] and I'll get back to you shortly.
I have booked the prive rate before for a stay at a park hyatt. Honestly do the math. You may have better discount rates available to you than the prive rate. I didn't get any welcome gift when I did it. The credit sounds great but then you look at the outrageous prices some of these hotel restaurants are charging compared to restaurants just outside the hotel and you realize that the credit really doesn't...

Its worth doing if that is the hotel you want to stay at and you would be paying the same rate no matter what, but don't expect miracles.
First of all, great article Lucky!

@Jordan - thanks. I just did not realize but I guess it makes sense.

I am sure Ford will do a great job of booking through Hyatt Prive, Virtuoso or any of the other hotel schemes but if anyone is based in Europe and would prefer an agent nearer home I am a Virtuoso agent, Hyatt Prive agent and all of the major hotel schemes. Andy
@CJS - It;s true. The luxury market is still specialized.
If you're a Globalist, the $50-100 property credit + the price of hotel breakfast (in comparison to Club offerings at Grand Hyatt's and Hyatt Regency's) need to be weighed vs. booking the lowest rate. In many instances, the welcome gift is a cheap bottle of wine, fruits, and/or some basic cookies from the hotel's pastry shop - very little value in that. The value of a welcome letter = $0. In many instances, the welcome gift is a cheap bottle of wine, fruits, and/or some basic cookies from the hotel's pastry shop - very little value in that. The value of a welcome letter = $0. The confirmed upgrade is one category at best and at many properties, they'll only confirm you to a higher floor or one with a particular view, which quite frankly is not much of an upgrade anyways. Among the Hyatt Influencer forum, a recent survey had many loyal Hyatt members question the execution of Prive and did not score very high.
The only Hyatt Prive booking over the last year that confirmed a considerable upgrade was Andaz Wall Street, regular room to Standard Suite (but they almost always upgrade Globalists to Suites there.)
Andaz Singapore - Confirmed upgrade from regular room to "Bay View". Just a room upgrade. Hotel inventory showed Deluxe category available at check-in, but even as Globalist, they would not allocate me this room type.
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong - Confirmed upgrade from regular King room to "Harbour View." Again, just a view upgrade confirmed. Used a suite upgrade, so King Suite was confirmed, but the hotel would not confirm a higher category suite upgrade under Prive, on top of a suite upgrade.
Hyatt Regency Kyoto - Confirmed upgrade from regular room (28sqm) to Deluxe room (32sqm). Again, the typical upgrade that's offered to Globalists at this location, so just getting this confirmed ahead of time isn't very useful.
If the non-refundable lowest rate is significantly cheaper than the Prive rate (typically standard rate), which in some instances can be upwards of $50/day, it may not make sense to confirm a Prive rate as a Globalist on multi-day stays. Also, if the stays are for off-peak season where Globalist upgrades are more consistent, Prive's confirmed one category upgrade is redundant, as Globalist status nets you a better upgrade.
"Hotels still largely rely on travel advisors to sell rooms, especially at luxury hotels."
Is that a true statement?? If so, that really surprises me as I thought just about everyone booked their own hotel stays either via the hotel website, hotel booking service website, etc. - regardless if luxury hotel or not. Generally speaking, I thought that travel agents/advisors were a thing of the past for the most part. With that being said, I...

With that being said, I do understand that the program you're referring to has to be booked by a travel advisor - such as Ford whom I have used in the past and was incredibly satisfied with his service.
@Fernando No the rates are not refundable.
Early this year, Ford booked the HP rate for my partner and me at the Andaz Papagayo Peninsula Costa Rica. Decent room upgrade (very nice view of the bay), spectacular wide-ranging breakfast, and a three hour barista and coffee-tasting class (to which we applied the $100 property credit)!
Ford helped me with an amazing stay at Park Hyatt Washington DC. Amazing value. His coworker, Aaron, assisted me with a great value stay for 3 nights in January 2020 at The Driskill in Austin (I guess Ford was enjoying his travels in Africa with you ;). Love this service!
is the Prive rate refundable?
Miraval is listed, what are the benefits?
I love Hyatt Prive’. The sweet spot is 1 night stays at PH and Andaz. Additionally, combining with property level 3rd nt free and 4th nt free promos now that Citi Prestige can no longer book 4NF rates with Prive’.
You may want to confirm this information, I just called the Hyatt Globalist line and was told I can not upgrade my reservation because the agent use the Prive rate. Then Citi confirmed that you can not use the 4th night benefit on a Prive Rate. That would probably explain why my recent stays are not paying out.
Ooops, yeah it does look like this can be combined with the 4th night free deal.
Thank you for your response.
When it comes to Prive upgrades, the official terms and conditions are as per below:
Room Upgrade
> Response within 24 hours of request by Travel Advisor
> Subject to availability
> One category upgrade, excluding non-suite to suite upgrades
So it is not so much a guaranteed upgrade within 24hrs of booking, moreso a guaranteed response time to the upgrade request and this being within 24hrs of the request being made.

In my experience with booking Prive for clients, hotels will confirm the upgrade in advance if the hotel isn't forecast to be full and if they are they will leave the upgrade pending until the day of arrival.
Hi Lucky,
Have you heard of any change regarding the confirmed upgrade? I was under the impression that it could be confirmed upon request, but now I am being told that it is cleared based on availability at check in.
Thank you
If I have a one night Prive booking, and then add another 3 nights as a separate booking using my own corporate rate (which is significantly cheaper), it works out the same cost wise as "get fourth night free". My question is, the $100 prive credit would only be eligible for the 1 night booked via Prive, correct? I couldn't use that during the extra 3 days I am there? Or would the hotel let me use it later in the stay?
@Lucky - you mentioned that all Globalist benefits would be honored, but I haven't seen it mentioned whether you still get your Elite Qualifying Nights if you book with a Prive rate? I am assuming you do, but just want to make sure!
@ E -- You sure do!
you acutually CAN combine with the Citi Prestige 4th night. Call Citi conciegre.
If a hotel is running a "Third Night Free" rate on their site (e.g. Park Hyatt Beaver Creek currently doing that during May), would I be able to get Hyatt Prive benefits?
@lucky What type of fees are we looking at to use a travel agent?
@ Erik -- Most agents won't charge any sort of a fee.
@ford booked our Andaz in scottsdale two weeks ago! It was fantastic! We used he resort credit for a cabana rental and the breakfast was great! I HIGHLY recommend Ford and his services. We had such a great experience with Andaz, Ford booked us for Costa Rica over Labor Day!
Thank you lucky!
I have a question about the program, specifically, transaction name.
I've never used this kind of travel agency for booking my hotels or airlines.
Then, it would appear "Travel agency name (e.g., travelsociety or Hausoftravel)" on my transaction list? or "Hotel name". I am asking this for double-dipping with Amex offer(hyatt regency $200-$60)
Thank you again
@ aerogeek -- You'll be charged directly by the hotel, as usual, so it would show as the hotel's name. The travel agent isn't charging you, but just making the booking for you.
Hey Lucky! May i know where did you receive this information from? I've been trying to scour for an official release from Hyatt can't seem to find one. Cheers!
It's an awesome new program that Hyatt is offering tho.
Took advantage of this and booked myself a room at the Andaz Liverpool.
Thanks!
Thank you Ben for bringing this new initiative to my attention ,I will most certainly take advantage of the Program . As a Globalist member it is rare if at all that I am offered an upgrade ( actually never) ,so this provides benefits over and above . Having Breakfast options is also a plus as the Executive lounges at times can be crowded and limited in choice.
Like LP, I think HP may be worth it in certain, limited circumstances.
I disagree with Lucky, though, that paying $40 (plus taxes) for a $100 credit in NYC (where I generally am not spending a significant amount of time in my hotel), perhaps a marginally better breakfast (that will probably take twice or three times as long as breakfast in the club), and room upgrade (that one will likely get anyways due to...

But I am probably a different sort of traveler than Lucky.
If you get the guaranteed room category upgrade, would you still be able to receive a space available Globalist upgrade to a suite upon checkin?
@ MT -- Yep!
Any idea why Hyatt Centrics aren't part of this? I get HP and HH, but why not Centric?
What can the property credit be used on?
@ Aaron M Curtis -- It should be valid on just about anything except room rate, tax, gratuity, resort fees, or 3rd party businesses at the hotel.
Why is Andaz Scottsdale so cheap during summer? Is it because over there it's blazingly hot?
@ ITST -- Exactly. Same reason Dubai is cheap in the summer.
@Lucky - Just to clarify, it won't qualify for the Citi 4th night benefit... but the concierge that makes the bookings would likely book this? Or the only hotels they do are Citi related? They have gotten me cars and the like. I email them all the time so that would make it easy to add this.
Thanks.
@ DaKine -- I don't believe the agency they use has access to the program, so I believe they couldn't book it.
Saudi Arabia is on your top list to visit? Really? Crazy that you’d want to in any way support such a bigoted and backwards country considering you are gay AND Jewish.
Is my credit card being charged by the Hyatt Prive agent up front or do I pay upon checkout?
@ Ed -- You pay at check-out, just as you usually would.
Dang, I stayed with a standard rate for $211 at the Park Hyatt DC last week... would’ve been nice to have the $100 credit. Will definitely keep this in my back pocket, very useful.
I can confirm that Andaz Scottsdale has Hyatt Privé rates loaded in Sabre.
Do you receive elite status night credit when booking this rate? What about world of Hyatt promotion bonus points?
Thanks!
@ Wes Dayhoff -- You receive points and qualify for all promotions.
Lucky,
Am I missing something? It looks like the Andaz Scottsdale is actually not on the list provided.
@ Joel Ang -- Not sure why it isn't on that particular list, but for travel agents it shows as being eligible, so it can definitely be booked.
"I’d gladly pay an extra $40 over the course of a two night stay to get a $100 property credit, restaurant breakfast, and a guaranteed upgrade."
Why??? Are we talking about the same Grand Hyatt Times Square? Aren't you a Globalist with guaranteed lounge access and suite upgrades upon arrival? How many breakfasts do you need? You know their suites are tiny right?
@ stvr -- You get suite upgrades on a space available basis, but sometimes they're not available. The base rooms at the Grand Hyatt are tiny, so at least being guaranteed an upgrade to a slightly larger room (which typically retails for $20 more per night) is worth something, as is the hotel credit. A restaurant breakfast is also better than the continental breakfast in the club lounge. Admittedly at the Grand Hyatt it isn't...

Great coverage of the program Lucky, it’s only new but of great value!
What I also love about Prive over FHR or Virtuoso is the credit is more flexible and can be used on most hotel facilities as opposed to just food and beverage like some credits.
For those readers in Australia who would like to book with a local advisor, there are only a few selected agencies invited to be a member...

Is Citi Prestige concierge able to book such rates? If so, it would be awesome to have the 4th night free along with these perks.
@ Kai Cao -- Citi Prestige can't book these, nope.
